When most people hear the words sleep paralysis they automatically assume a fearful state. Sure there are scientific reasonings behind this phenomena, but often it can seem all too paranormal. So before I get into that side of sleep paralysis I've got to start with the basic facts. Sleep paralysis is the temporary inability to move or speak, well waking up or falling asleep. It can last anywhere from a few seconds to multiple minutes. It's considered to be one of he most terrifying experiences because a person is fully aware mentally but physically cannot move. According to science this occurs during the rem sleep state, where a majority of dreams happen and your body shuts off. During this time your mind can wake up before the rest of your body, causing sleep paralysis. Now days they say there are reasons to this experience and ways to cure it. But what about those of us who experienced sleep paralysis and don't fall into the criteria? I've had two of these experiences myself, and I don't particularly like to talk about them. Mostly because there was nothing normal about them, to this day I am frighted by the voices I heard and the struggle it came with. Some people hear foot steps and sense someone else in there room. Some claim to have seen aliens, demons, or shadow people. Often on top of them attempting to choke them or pressing into the chest. Some have a feeling of dread wash over them. Could it be a spiritual awaking, where our soul is detaching from our body?
